Level of Fitness

Difficulty levels are determined by distance, elevation gain, and terrain. For example, an easy trail would not have much elevation gain or would be a shorter distance. A hard trail would be longer, have a significant amount of elevation gain, or have some sort of terrain component that makes it challenging.

Each event will specify the difficulty level: Easy, Moderate, or Difficult. We expect participants to have a good level of fitness and there will be a challenge to suit everyone. It is your responsibility to contact us if you have any concerns regarding your level of fitness, health, or ability to complete a challenge.

Fitness training

Everybody is different so we cannot recommend a specific fitness programme. However, please remember the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the challenges. Do not underestimate the importance of training before your challenge.

If you are a novice, we encourage you to prepare for your challenge by gradually walking longer distances over a set period of time, and progressively incorporate some uphill terrain to improve your endurance. Even if you are active and exercise regularly, it’s a good idea to adapt your training to match the specifics of your chosen challenge.

Whatever training you decide to do, remember that consistency is key!

There are lots of ways to incorporate more movement into your daily routine – for example:

Get up an hour earlier for a brisk walk before work, or walk to work where possible
Fit in a short walk or exercise during lunch breaks
Take the stairs instead of the lift
Up your fitness level by running, cycling, swimming, circuit training, enrolling in spin or HIIT classes
Walk and/or cycle as much as possible in ‘real’ outdoor conditions

Checklist – what should I bring on the day?

We encourage you to adhere to these checklists for your hike so that you’re fully equipped to take on your chosen challenge(s).
