Testimonials

A message from
Pat Dennigan,
CEO, Focus Ireland:

As CEO of Focus Ireland, I'm urging all business leaders in Ireland to join me in the annual Shine A Light Business Leader sleep out on Friday, October 11. This impactful event is more than just a night spent outdoors – it's an opportunity for us to collectively raise awareness, vital funds, and our voices in the fight against homelessness. Homelessness is a complex issue with devastating consequences. It's a crisis that demands action, and business leaders have a unique responsibility to step up. The Business Leader Sleep Out offers a powerful platform for us to do just that. Your involvement shows that we are not alone in this fight to end homelessness. I look forward to discussing this important issue with you further.

A message from our sponsor, Bord Gáis Energy:
 Dave Kirwan,
Managing Director

As business leaders, we have a responsibility beyond the walls of our companies. We have a responsibility to the communities we operate in and the people who call them home. That's why I'm urging all business leaders to join me in the annual Shine A Light Business Leader sleep out this October 11. This isn't just about spending a night outside your comfort zone. It's about raising vital funds for Focus Ireland, the national organisation tackling homelessness in Ireland. It's about sparking meaningful conversations with colleagues and peers about this critical issue. Homelessness doesn't discriminate. It affects families, individuals, and young people in every corner of our country. By participating in Shine A Light, we can amplify our voices and influence, sending a powerful message about the importance of addressing the current homeless crisis.

Past Participants

Dr Patricia Cullen, Henkel Technology Centre

On 13 October 2023, I slept outside on the 7th Floor on a cement area at Croke Park, for the Focus Ireland Shine A Light event.  I have slept out for Focus Ireland for many years, and I have never regretted it, no matter what the weather conditions are like in October! I have met some amazing people and had some great chats with business leaders who really support this cause. Each time, we got a brief insight into what homelessness means and how terrible it really is. We were only without our homes for one night but there are people that we are supporting who experience this every day! There were talks on the night by Focus Ireland and we also heard from folk who have been helped by Focus Ireland and now have their own home: that was really inspiring. We helped to raise funds however, it was not just about the money, rather raising the awareness of the homeless crisis and how Focus Ireland works to end homelessness. Support the Focus Ireland Shine A light sleep out, you will never regret it!
