A message from
Pat Dennigan,
CEO, Focus Ireland:
Business leaders are constantly dealing with challenges. It's what we do. Challenges of service, resources, people, public perception, juggling family demands and everything else. As CEO of Focus Ireland, I'm extending a direct challenge to all business leaders to join me in the annual Shine A Light Business Leader sleep out on Friday 10 October.
True leadership emerges in the face of challenges. And right now, we face a profound challenge: the homelessness crisis affecting thousands of children in Ireland. We cannot, and we must not, turn away.
This year, we are shining a direct, unyielding spotlight on child homelessness. Let's be clear: it is not an inevitability that families are without homes, that children are left behind, their childhoods stolen, their futures blighted. This is not a preordained fate. This is a question of political will and choice, and as a nation, we must demand action.
We absolutely must not fail children again. Your presence is critical to collectively raise awareness, secure vital funds, and amplify our voices in this urgent, necessary fight. Your experience of dealing with challenges is essential to deal with this one. Your commitment, your presence, and your willingness to engage in Shine A Light signals our collective resolve to end homelessness. Together, we can make the choice to protect childhoods and build better futures for thousands of children without a home.

A message from our sponsor, Bord Gáis Energy:
Dave Kirwan,
Managing Director
As business leaders, we have a responsibility beyond the walls of our companies. We have a responsibility to the communities we operate in and the people who call them home. That's why I'm urging all business leaders to join me in the annual Shine A Light Business Leader sleep out this October 11. This isn't just about spending a night outside your comfort zone. It's about raising vital funds for Focus Ireland, the national organisation tackling homelessness in Ireland. It's about sparking meaningful conversations with colleagues and peers about this critical issue. Homelessness doesn't discriminate. It affects families, individuals, and young people in every corner of our country. By participating in Shine A Light, we can amplify our voices and influence, sending a powerful message about the importance of addressing the current homeless crisis.
Past Participants
Dr Patricia Cullen, Henkel Technology Centre:
On 13 October 2023, I slept outside on the 7th Floor on a cement area at Croke Park, for the Focus Ireland Shine A Light event. I have slept out for Focus Ireland for many years, and I have never regretted it, no matter what the weather conditions are like in October! I have met some amazing people and had some great chats with business leaders who really support this cause. Each time, we got a brief insight into what homelessness means and how terrible it really is. We were only without our homes for one night but there are people that we are supporting who experience this every day! There were talks on the night by Focus Ireland and we also heard from folk who have been helped by Focus Ireland and now have their own home: that was really inspiring. We helped to raise funds however, it was not just about the money, rather raising the awareness of the homeless crisis and how Focus Ireland works to end homelessness. Support the Focus Ireland Shine A light sleep out, you will never regret it!
