Mission Statement

Focus Ireland are driven by the fundamental belief that homelessness is wrong. They work with people who need support to avoid becoming homeless and who need help to end their experience of homelessness and move into a safe and secure home. From the very beginning, their work has been rooted in deep listening to people, learning about the problems and risks they face and pointing to where the solutions lie.

We Survived!

It was a cold, cold night. Borris Scouts arrived enthusiastic and soon had all the tents up, leaders first of course! The camp fire was lit, and we all sat round, talking about what it might be like to be homeless. A surprise visit from Jessica Murphy of Focus Ireland caught the Scouts in the middle of making yummy pizza. A few camp fire songs, games, then hot chocolate and smores before heading off to bed and the cold, cold tents. Of course sleep was far from the scouts minds. I can however report that silence reigned sometime after 1am, except for some snoring from the exhausted leaders. Needless to say, the enthusiasm had burnt out come a very cold and frosty start at 7.30 the next day! On behalf of 3rd Carlow Borris Scouts I would like to thank all our supporters who have helped us raise a truly astonishing amout, far far more that what we had originally envisioned. Donations to our team can be made up to a month after this date so keep sharing our link!

Big Night Out

Well done Borris Scouts- you've gone well over our target and we now stand at just over €1500!!! Fantastic. And thank yoy to all the donars. Hope you're all ready for a cold night! Just eat lots of pizza and smores and then hopefully lots of snores. All the best from the leaders

Happy Campers

I received a phone call today on behalf of all our team from Focus Ireland. They expressed their amazement and thanks at just how much money Borris Scouts had raised so far for the Shine a Light appeal. They wished us all the best for the Friday night sleep out, and well done everyone.

Why Borris Scouts are sleeping out

Focus Ireland is important to us as homelessness is a big problem. We would like to support the homeless. We are raising money and sleeping outside in tents to show our love.

Some thoughts around homelessness by Borris Scouts

- not fair to have people out on their own
- it's not right they're out on the streets/fields/canals
-they exposed to the worst of the weather
-they don't have anywhere they can call home
-they are often alone
-they are entitled to a safe, secure and warm place

A big thanks to everyone!

Borris Scouts supporters have done an amazing job, leaving our latest target in the dust. So I've pushed up our target once more. Thanks again to all of you

Smashed our target!!!

Well done Borris Scouts - with more than a week to go we've already met our target of €500 🥳🤑🤩 - so I've increased it to €750. Wouldn't it be great if I had to change it again??!!

We’re sleeping out against homelessness

This October 11, we'll be doing something a little different. We'll be swapping our warm beds for sleeping bags to take part in a nationwide sleep out to raise awareness and funds for Focus Ireland, the national organisation tackling homelessness in Ireland.

We care deeply about our community, and homelessness is an issue that touches us all. It doesn't discriminate - homelessness has many faces, and it can happen to anyone. A sudden illness, a job loss, a family breakdown - these are just some of the events that can push someone into homelessness, leaving them with uncertainty and fear.

This is why, on October 11, our team will be stepping outside our comfort zone and participating in Focus Ireland’s Shine A Light, proudly supported by Bord Gáis Energy. While a one-night sleep out is certainly not the same, it offers a glimpse into the vulnerability and hardship faced by thousands of people in Ireland without a safe and secure home.

This issue becomes even more heartbreaking when we consider the children who face the uncertainty of homelessness. The thought of over 4,000 children in our community without a stable home is simply unacceptable. A child's life should be filled with dreams, not the stress of where they'll sleep each night.

Please show your support by donating to our fundraising page: every contribution, big or small, gets us closer to creating a future where everyone has a safe place to call home.
