BNI Mayo are sleeping out against homelessness
On October 11th, our BNI chapter will be stepping out of our comfort zones and into sleeping bags as we join a nationwide sleep out to raise awareness and funds for Focus Ireland, a leading organization dedicated to tackling homelessness across the country. With Monica McElhinney, our Regional Community Fundraising Officer and charity seat holder in BNI Mayo, we’re inspired by the incredible work she does and are eager to support her on this meaningful night.
Homelessness is a pressing issue that affects us all. It doesn’t discriminate—anyone can find themselves without a home due to unexpected life events like illness, job loss, or family crises. This is why we are committed to participating in Focus Ireland’s Shine A Light event, proudly supported by Bord Gáis Energy. Although sleeping outside for one night doesn’t compare to the daily struggles faced by those without a home, it offers a brief insight into the vulnerability and hardship endured by thousands across Ireland.
What makes this issue even more heartbreaking is the impact on children. The thought of over 4,000 children in our community living without a stable home is something we simply cannot accept. Every child deserves a life filled with dreams and security, not the uncertainty of where they’ll sleep each night.
We invite you to join us in making a difference. Please consider donating to our fundraising page—every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to ensuring that everyone in our community has a safe place to call home.
